Part of preserving our city’s rich jazz history is caring for the musicians whose inimitable sounds were its essence. Former Kansas City Star columnist Steve Penn chronicles the lives of 20 of those men and women, from bassist Milt Abel to soul singer Marva Whitney, in his book Last Call, calling attention as well to the Coda Jazz Fund. Established in 2002, it helps cover funeral and burial expenses for deceased Kansas City jazz musicians and vocalists. Join us as Penn discusses his book and the history of the Coda Jazz Fund. Mr. Penn will have books available for sale following the event.
