"In the nine paintings presented, I aimed to show my appreciation for Kansas City through its neighborhoods, architecture, infrastructure, and landmarks. I hoped to capture glimpses of the city’s beauty. The K.C. Neighborhoods are aesthetically in line with the rest of the Neighborhoods Series, which were first painted in 2017. Expressionistic impressionism is how I would describe the works. I take the buildings I see, document them, and paint them in a way that breathes life into the structures. The general color of each piece of architecture remains true to life, but many liberties of self-expressionistic abstraction are taken in the way the paint is applied and by decorative mark-making."

Impressions of Kansas City by J.B. Nearsy will be on display at West Wyandotte Library through the end of June.
