Program Description

Event Details

Every year beginning in November, we participate in Cornell University’s Project Feeder Watch, a citizen science project that involves counting and documenting the birds that visit our feeders. The information is then added into a national database to watch and learn about migrating patterns of bird populations. We’d like to encourage our patrons to spend time this fall and winter observing birds and enjoying the art of bird watching!

Visit the library any time during the weeks of November 9th and 16th to pick up your bird watching packet. Included will be A Pocket Guide to Common Kansas Birds book, supplies to make a simple bird feeder (seed included), a Checklist of Kansas Birds by Kansas Ornithological Society, and more. When you pick up your supplies, you will automatically be entered into a drawing for an awesome bird feeder and seed to fill it. Also, for every bird, bird ID or bird watching book you check out from the Schlagle Library or KCKPL, you will receive more drawing entries!!!

Give us a call when you arrive. We will bring your supplies out to your vehicle. We’re here Mon-Fri, 9:00-5:00. 913-295-8250, option #2.

You are more then welcome to watch birds at our feeders from the deck or within the park, or stay in the comfort of your own home and watch from windows!

Happy Birding Everyone!!!
