Mary Pat Corder will be showing her art through the end of June.

Artist Statement:  I’m a Midwest girl; born and raised in Wyandotte County. In 3rd grade I won a class art competition. The prize was a box of brightly colored art pencils. With a boost of confidence I began drawing everyone and everything. People and animals have continued to be my favorite subjects.

After college I did a short stint at Hallmark Cards before getting married, moving and raising three children. Although I loved my years spent in the southern states (North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee, & Georgia) it was good to get back home.

For the past 15 years I have taught art at St. Andrew the Apostle Catholic School in Gladstone, K-8th grade. The great thing about art is anyone at any age can find a way of expressing themselves. I am constantly amazed at the creativity of my students.

I work in oil, acrylic, watercolor and gouache. I also create assembled pieces from salvaged materials. I paint pet portraits and have conducted “paint your pet” classes through Dogs by Debin.
