Event Details

Join us for the 15th year of this wonderful family event!  COVID-19 can't stop us from learning all about one of the best migrators on the planet; the Monarch Butterfly!  Although the event might look a little different from years past due to social distancing, we'll still offer all types of fun and educational activities all week!

The week will include videos on how we rear our Monarch caterpillars and also how we tag them before they begin their journey to Mexico.  Children ages 5-15 can participate in a butterfly coloring contest through the entire month of September.  We will announce the winners of our annual Insect Photo Contest.  Links for information on native planting and pollinator gardens will be available.

You can stop by any time during our library hours to pick up childrens' craft kits, "seed bomb" kits, free milkweed seeds and "Butterflies of Kansas" booklet.  You can go on an insect scavenger hunt at home, in the park or anywhere and submit your finds at #SchlagleBF2020.  If you'd like to get out and enjoy the park, swing by the library and pick up our Butterfly Walk checklist and go on a scavenger hunt along our nature trail. (See flyer attachment link to the right.)
